The Personal Finance Society (PFS) is the professional body for the financial planning profession in the UK. The remit of the PFS is to lead the financial planning community towards higher levels of professionalism exhibited through technical knowledge, client service and ethical practice. The PFS is part of the Chartered Insurance Institute and aligned with its Royal Charter that requires them to secure and justify the confidence of the public.
Chartered status is the profession’s gold standard for financial planners. It confirms that every Chartered Financial Planner has completed a suite of professional qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree. It also involves a commitment to continuing professional development and adherence to an industry standard Code of Ethics. You can view the Code at www.cii.co.uk/code.
The Pension Transfer Gold Standard is a voluntary code of good practice for safeguarded and defined benefit pension transfer advice, based around a set of principles. Firms are required to adopt and promote the principles, so consumers can better understand and find good advice, and be confident they are dealing with a firm going beyond minimum requirements.
Resolution members come from many professional backgrounds, including solicitors, legal executives, barristers, financial planners and family mediators.
By bringing together all the different practitioners working in the family justice sphere, the ethos from Resolution’s Code of Practice spreads to new practitioners, helping ensure families dealing with separation and divorce receive the support they need to resolve their issues.
STEP is the global professional association for practitioners who specialise in family inheritance and succession planning. STEP works to improve public understanding of the issues families face in this area and promote education and high professional standards amongst members.
